Ruskin Bond is an Indian author, best known for his short stories published in various magazines and weeklies. He began writing at age fourteen while working in a tea garden near his village of Ramnagar, Uttar Pradesh. His first collection of stories, The Season of the Moth, was published in 1978. Since then he has published more than seventy books, including the novel Kala Pani (1993), which won the Sahitya Akademi Award
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005.
